BODY MOUSSE was awarded the German Packaging Award as well as the Can
of the Year Award in the category Can already on the Market by the international
trade association Aerobal.
The jury was impressed by every aspect of the TUBEX produced can. The extremely smooth yet unusual conical shape was obtained by using the spline technology. A technique used to create very smooth transitions and that avoids shadowing on the cans' surface. The stepped shoulder, specially adapted to the spray cap geometry, requires shaping in small steps. Everything from drawing to the tool setting has to be precisely aligned in order to get a perfect can. To create the round brand NIVEA logo on this can, requires special attention to detail. The brand logo is applied to the cylindrical can and at that stage, the logo appears irregular and pre-distorted. After the horizontal and vertical shaping of the can, the brand logo is circular looking.
The very fine and seamless color graduation from an opaque violet running down from the top to the base of the can into a pale violet, is outstanding.

And this is especially so for Brazil...The packaging industry has taken the first signs that the Brazilian economy is recovering from recent political turmoil, and closed 2017 with an overall growth of 1.96% in physical production, according to the Brazilian Packaging Association ( Open ). The answer was even more exciting in the beverage industry for aluminum cans, an increase of 4.9% over sales of the previous year, increasing its share in the beverage market, which increased by 1% in the same period, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In the past decade polycarbonate and plastics have grabbed market share
away from canmakers. But now the tide is turning and canmakers need
to wake up and grab the headlines. Consumers are waking up to the fact
that plastic bottles are swamping the marine environment. The UK media
TV News has spearheaded a campaign to highlight the way the planet
is clogging up with plastics. They report that: Plastic waste has been
described as a "planetary crisis" by the UN. In the UK alone,
we use 35 million plastic bottles every day.
Canmakers need to crank up their PR experts to spread the word that cans are lightweight, recyclable and do not pose any greast threat to the marine environment. Well all said and done aluminium is one of the commonest elements on the planet. The canmaking industry and its trade bodies need to be loud and clear that cans are the more benign alternative to plastics.
It seems like madness the effort expended in selling bottled water. Western nations spend $millions providing quality drinking tap water to its people. Yet recent decades have seen lorries trundling hither and thither carting plastic bottled water to supermarket aisles. For all those Global Warming pundits this is even more a scene of mass craziness. Anyway one group has started to make an effort to slow the madness. METPACK 2017 was
a particular success story for the Italian firm PrintabLED, which celebrated
winning first prize at the trade fair. The southern European company
won the METPACK Gold Innovation Award for its high-performance UV-LED
systems for paint and printing lines. The jury recognised the high energy
efficiency and environmentally-friendly design of the UV-LED drying
technology for curing printing inks, paints and adhesives on metal packaging.
UV-LED devices do not use mercury and have a narrow emission spectrum,
so that no o-zone or undesirable radiation is formed during thermal
drying. Other Silver and Bronze awards went to KBA-MetalPrint and Valspar.
Around 7.200 trade visitors came to Messe Essen between 2nd and 6th
May 2017. The next METPACK will open at Messe Essen in May 2020. And
projects to develop the Messe Essen site are progressing on time and
to budget.The conclusion of the overall project with an investment volume
of around Euro 90 million is scheduled for the autumn of 2019.

The beverage packaging industry in North America is expected to reach $26.3
billion in 2015, with plastic bottles leading the way in popularity, according
to "Beverage Packaging An Industry Assessment," scheduled
for release next month by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing
The study notes plastic continues to be the most widely used bottling material, accounting for over 40 percent of the market, and bottles, with approximately 55 percent of the market, are the most popular packaging format for beverages. Although they suffered from a drop in soft drink sales, aluminum cans are picking up steam as other beverage categories such as energy drinks and microbrews are more than making up for the lost volume. Flexible pouches have experienced the slowest growth, but many respondents still anticipate increased adoption of flexible beverage packaging down the road. Key to that, the report says, would be products geared to consumers accustomed to beverages, such as juice, in pouches.
Regardless of format, nearly all the interviews conducted for the study identified packaging as the primary means for communicating brand values to consumers. The executive summary can be accessed now at pmmi.org.

January 16, 2017 Production of corned beef cans has increased from over 10 million units in 2013 to almost 25 million units in 2016. With this trajectory expected to continue, CROWN Food Europe, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc.
